Philadelphia, February 15, 2018 – Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies (PACT) announced today, Nick Carr, a writer and speaker whose work focuses on the intersection of technology and culture, has been named keynote speaker for Phorum 2018. Additionally, PACT announced it is now accepting applications for the Phorum 2018 Demo Pit. The Demo Pit was created to allow startups to connect with C-level enterprise decision makers attending the Phorum conference and provide them with a platform to showcase their technology. The deadline to submit an application is February 23, 2018.
Mr. Carr is the author of the acclaimed book The Glass Cage: How Our Computers Are Changing Us (2014), which examines the personal and social consequences of our ever-growing dependency on computers, robots, and apps. His previous work, The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains (2010), was a 2011 Pulitzer Prize finalist and a New York Times bestseller. His most recent book, Utopia Is Creepy: And Other Provocations (W.W. Norton & Company, 2016) uses a collection of his seminal essays to further explore the Internet’s impact on society. Phorum attendees will have the opportunity to meet Mr. Carr and have a copy of his latest work autographed by the author.

Hosted by PACT and sponsored by Fairmount Partners and LiquidHub, Phorum 2018 – Digitizing The Enterprise: Immersive, Cognitive, Trusted, to be held Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the SugarHouse Event Center, will feature lightning talks and panel discussions by industry analysts, technology visionaries, and business executives from companies such as IBM, Facebook Oculus, Comcast and SEI to name a few. Among those will be Peter Coffee, VP Strategic Research for Salesforce, who will kick things off with a glimpse of emerging technology trends.
Always a popular highlight of every Phorum conference is the Demo Pit. Early stage companies, with a product in early commercialization, are encouraged to apply. Each company selected will have the opportunity to present their business on the demo pit stage and receive a booth to show off their product throughout the entire conference. An esteemed panel of judges will visit the demo pit throughout the day to select three companies as Demo Pit Finalists, which will each be announced on the main stage during the concluding remarks. Ultimately, one will be named best in show.
